Waiting on Wednesday (18)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where bloggers feature upcoming book releases that they're looking forward to.

This week I'm eagerly anticipating...

When You Were Here
by Daisy Whitney

Publisher: Little, Brown
Release Date: June 4, 2013

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Filled with humor, raw emotion, a strong voice, and a brilliant dog named Sandy Koufax, When You Were Here explores the two most powerful forces known to man-death and love. Daisy Whitney brings her characters to life with a deft touch and resonating authenticity.

Danny's mother lost her five-year battle with cancer three weeks before his graduation-the one day that she was hanging on to see.

Now Danny is left alone, with only his memories, his dog, and his heart-breaking ex-girlfriend for company. He doesn't know how to figure out what to do with her estate, what to say for his Valedictorian speech, let alone how to live or be happy anymore.

When he gets a letter from his mom's property manager in Tokyo, where she had been going for treatment, it shows a side of his mother he never knew. So, with no other sense of direction, Danny travels to Tokyo to connect with his mother's memory and make sense of her final months, which seemed filled with more joy than Danny ever knew. There, among the cherry blossoms, temples, and crowds, and with the help of an almost-but-definitely-not Harijuku girl, he begins to see how it may not have been ancient magic or mystical treatment that kept his mother going. Perhaps, the secret of how to live lies in how she died.

Add it on Goodreads.

Normally I don't necessarily seek out books that sound so freaking sad. However, I am a big. fan of Daisy Whitney's, and I just know that this one will be emotional, but beautiful.

  1. Sounds good, nice pick.

  2. You know, for some reason, your site is blocked at my work! Why? God only knows. A lot of the blocked sites seem completely random to me (like yours -- totally don't get it). So, if I don't remember to come back and comment, just know I'm trying!! (I've got a god-awful memory lately.)

Anyway! Sounds like a very interesting book. Not sure if it's my thing but it's got a good premise.

    1. Jeeze, why is the internet punishing me so?? I promise there's nothing block-able worthy on here. =b

If it wasn't by Daisy Whitney this probably wouldn't be my thing either, but I read a copy from Netgalley and I LOVED it.

  3. I want to read this as well. It looks so heartbreaking, yet so good! Great pick!

    Check out my WoW!

  4. This summary made me AWWW! It looks so sad, but at the same time so so good!

  5. Aww, I got sad just reading the summary but I think it's an interesting start for a story, thanks for sharing your pick

  6. I don't really go for the sad books either but I love Daisy Whitney too so will want to read her next release. Love the cover too.

  7. I want to check this one out too-I don't seek out sad books but I can usually handle them if I brace myself.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment; I appreciate each one!
